Today is World Tourism Day and we join the rest of the world to celebrate the travel industry’s; social, economic, political and cultural significance.
This industry alone employs millions of people around the globe and is responsible for the livelihood of 1 in every 10 people here on earth. In some countries it represents over 20% of their GDP.
In Uganda, a total of about 667,600 people are employed in the Travel and Tourism industry, which constitutes nearly 6.7% of Uganda’s Labor force.
Every 27th September, the world joins as one to celebrate the growth of this intentional industry, a day which was first celebrated in the 1980’s.
World Tourism Day 2021 is under the theme, “TOURISM FOR INCLUSIVE GROWTH”
As Uganda Tourism joins this celebration, they are with no doubt in sync with the world theme as the board back home ensures that no one is left behind, with their focus on;
1] Heath and safety.
2] Financial recovery.
3] Promotion of Uganda as the ultimate tourism destination.
Now even as you may push away travel for a luxury remember;
“The world is a book and those who do not travel only read one page” – St Augustine.
As this day is waved to fulfillment of every purpose penned down, Uganda’s flag is raised higher with the richness of a country to feed the eyes of every tourist in and out.
Happy tourism day Uganda and the entire world.
