The Elgon region comprising of Mbale, Kapchorwa and districts of Kween and Bukwo presents
some of the most diverse yet untapped potentials in Uganda when it comes to both domestic and
foreign tourism.
The ministry of tourism wildlife and antiquities together with local tourism bodies in Uganda
commissioned the ‘explore Elgon campaign’ on the 20 th -23 rd of December dubbed explore Elgon
with the aim of bringing more visibility to this region in terms of destination potentials.
Hon. Minister Martin Mugarra, the state minister wildlife and antiquities said, the campaign
serves as one of the first initiatives of the domestic rollout of the newly refreshed destination
brand, Explore Uganda.
Famous for imbalu and kadodi festival, Mbale is blessed with a great deal of potential when it
comes to cultural tours and coffee tours.
The Elgon region known for the breath-taking hills and a prominent volcanic mountain, Elgon
surrounded by the largest caldera in the whole world Wagagai has been named the hikers haven
in Uganda, presenting untapped potentials when it comes to adventure tourism.
Even though the region is most famous for the adventure activities like abseiling carried out at
Sipi falls at the footsteps of mountain Elgon, the region still offers a variety of water fall
experience virgin for investment and exploration.
The explore Elgon campaign was embraced by the media, prominent figures from the
entertainment industry and well-wishers.
