The Congo government has blamed the M23 rebels in Eastern Congo for a massacre of more than 270 civilians including children last week in the town of Kishishe. The report was given on Monday by the Industry minister Julien Paluku while speaking at a press briefing with government spokesperson -Patrick Muyaya.
“I cannot give details of the attack. An investigation has been opened by the attorney general and we are awaiting the results of the investigators.” said Muyaya. “What we do know is that children were killed in an Adventist church and a hospital,” he added.
The M23 rebels have denied the allegations of attacking civilians and called them, “baseless”.
Since late March, the war in Eastern Congo has only become worse, lately; leading to displacement of more people. The recently displaced are joining the about 200.000 IDPs forced to leave their homes as reported by UN.
