Lt. Col. Damiba who about three weeks ago, on the January 24 – led a group of dissatisfied army officers to over throw the democratically elected president Kabore over his handling of the worsening security situation has been sworn president.
On Feb 16, the coup leader was inaugurated on a televised ceremony as the new president of Burkina Faso where he took an oath to , “preserve, respect and uphold the country’s constitution.”
Burkina Faso has been suspended from the West African regional body known as the ECOWAS as well as the African union.
Former president Roch Marc Christian Kabore is also still under house arrest.
