Washington Mayor Muriel Bowser has declared a state of emergency in US capital city for 15 days following the invasion of Congress by pro-Trump protestors.
“Many persons came to the District armed and for the purpose of engaging in violence and destruction,” Bowser said in a statement.
“They have fired chemical irritants, bricks, bottles and guns” and ‘their motivation is ongoing”, she continued.
I have issued Mayor’s Order 2021-003, extending the public emergency declared earlier today for a total of 15 days, until and unless provided for by further Mayoral Order.

“President Donald Trump continues to fan rage and violence by contending that the presidential election was invalid.”
Bowser had earlier imposed a 6pm curfew throughout the city on Wednesday. The order allows government agencies to take extraordinary measures, including issuing further curfews and removing people from the streets.
The order extends until January 21, the day after Joe Biden is to be inaugurated president.
