The National Social Security Fund has collected up to 948 million shillings from the Kampala Seven Hills Run where about 8,000 participants were flagged off from the Kololo Ceremonial grounds in Kampala on 2nd July, 2023.
“We have been able to rise about 948 million shillings, 400 million in cash, the balance in kind. It has been great, remember we had a target of one billion shillings, and we think by the end of the day we should be able to get all the money we need for that purpose. Close to 8,000 people turned up for this run which is very good because we thought people had forgotten due to the Covid break”, said Ayota.
As part of social corporate responsibility, NSSF organized the Kampala Hills Run, a 12 kilometer run covering the 7 hills of Kampala to support social causes including keeping a girl child in school. The NSSF hopes that the proceeds from the run will help them support various interventions at selected public schools across the country.
“The idea is we look out for a school in each of the regions and see what we can do with it” Ayota explained.
Mr. Ayota the Acting Managing Director NSSF says their next step is now selecting the schools that will benefit. The schools must meet the following criteria; Must have a good governance structure, have active PTA, Good relationship with the district, and must be non- partisan.
The previous editions of the NSSF Kampala run have benefited up to 15,000 children in the districts of Kisoro, Kampala, Soroti, Otuke. 60 classroom blocks renovated, 13 primary schools’ sanitation improved.
The NSSF in this edition puts its focus on; innovation, sanitation, and digital education within these schools.
