“We can’t risk the lives of our people for the sake of business. Before the virus came, they were burden enough. Now with this virus, we can’t continue with the menace. The least they can do is keeping quiet for now and wait for the disease (COVID-19) to be over,” noted president Museveni last month .
After President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni turning down Boda-Bodas riders last month during his speech, on the COVID-19 situation in Uganda, many of these ninjas wept bitterly, wondering how they were going to survive in thisCOVID-19 season.
Many of them where very disappointed, prompting some of their leaders to call upon president to intervene in their situation.
“I was worried about Boda-Bodas because I was not sure we could find a solution. Our scientists have come up with a solution. The rider is already putting on a mask and put on a helm”. said president Museveni yesterday evening.
This statement made by president Museveni during his speech on coronavirus situation yesterday evening has not only made Boda-Bodas riders dance on there toes as a sign of relief but it has also cleared there way to see the light at the end of the tunnel.
Even though Boda-Bodas have finally been approved to resume work, strict guidelines have been put in place to be followed. Among the guidelines include Boda-boda operators are required to keep a record of passengers they transport to enable health workers tress them in case a rider tested positive for COVID-19. The Boda-Bodas Riders are expected to resume work on 27 of July ,counting only four days from now. Mean while over 110 arcades are to be re-opened and saloons as well.
