A man in Rubanda district has been sentenced by the Kabale high court to 40 years imprisonment for burning wife and 3 children on June 12th, 2021 at around 8pm.
Vianney Armstrong Ahimbisibwe -45 years old pleaded guilty to committing the crime in Rubanda district in 2021.
Ahimbisibwe set the house on fire, killing his wife Rovinah Muheki, 43 – sons Edwin Tumworobire, 17, and Westlife Akampumuriza, 15, plus daughter Maria Akwire Akinamushabire, 5.
At the time of committing crime, he had separated from his wife following a misunderstanding and was staying in a different home
“While the convict asked for a lenient punishment, appeared remorseful and regrets his actions, the court contends that the offenses he committed were grave and calls for a death sentence once proved guilty,” the judge ruled.
“Putting into consideration the submission of the state prosecution calling for a deterrence sentence by punishing the convict basing on the number of people he murdered, the fact that he did not take lives of foreigners but his immediate family members to achieve his predetermined evil motives, he is hereby sentenced 40 years for each count of murder,” Justice Emokor added.
He is sentenced for 15 years on the charge of arson and two years for assaulting and causing bodily harm to his son who survived the fire.
