The History of Ugandan petroleum can go as far as 1925, when a government geologist E.J Wayland documented in a publication, ‘Petroleum in Uganda’. We can however be sure the oil had existed longer than this discovery even when this was the beginning of economic gain from this oil.
In May, 2017, an intergovernmental agreement was signed between Uganda and Tanzania and a foundation stone was laid both in Tanga and Hoima -as major oil routes, in August 2017 and November 2017 respectively.
When the final investment decision is signed, our oil and gas sector is expected to increase employment of Ugandans, 57% of the employees anticipated to be Ugandans.
Uganda is expected to produce 230.000 barrels of oil per day, an event which is expected to boast economic growth and socioeconomic transformation in the country.
President Museveni and Tanzania’s Vice president , Philip Isdor Mpango , are expected to officiate the sealing of the deal at the Kololo ceremonial grounds. Many other officials have arrived at the airstrip to witness and participate in the signing of the Final Investment Decision.
